Jamaat candidate submits nomination for Thakurgaon-1 by-election

Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Delawar Hossain, backed by the 11-party alliance, submitted his nomination papers on Saturday (September 26) for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.

Delawar submitted the papers to Returning Officer and District Election Officer Kamrul Islam at the district election office around noon.

Local Jamaat leaders and activists accompanied him.

District Jamaat Ameer Prof Md Belal Uddin Prodhan, Assistant Secretary Prof Md Kafil Uddin and other party leaders were present during the submission.

After filing his nomination, Delawar said he hoped voters would elect him and pledged to work to curb corruption and accelerate development in Thakurgaon if elected.

District Election Officer Kamrul Islam said candidates can submit nomination papers until 4pm on Sunday. So far, five candidates have collected nomination papers for the by-election.

According to the election schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinised on September 29, with voting scheduled for October 29.

The Thakurgaon-1 seat, comprising Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhia and Bhulli, fell vacant after its former MP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president.
