Jamaat ward president held with cash near polling centre

Sharif Hasan, 55, president of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's ward 9, has been detained with cash in front of the Rizia Khatun Provati Government Primary School polling centre in Chuadanga municipality. The incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday.

Deputy Collector of the Nezarat Branch and Executive Magistrate Alauddin Al Azad confirmed the matter. He said Tk 79,000 in cash was recovered from the detained Sharif Hasan.

Local sources said Sharif Hasan was suspiciously loitering in front of the centre. When locals noticed, police were informed. Duty police personnel subsequently detained him. The Executive Magistrate arrived at the spot and took necessary measures.

Executive Magistrate Alauddin Al Azad said Sharif Hasan initially admitted to possessing the money. A regular case has been filed against him.

Chuadanga Sadar Thana Inspector (Investigation) Shahidur Rahman said the detained individual has been handed over to the Executive Magistrate.
