Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman files nomination for Dhaka-15
On the final day for filing nominations, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman submitted his papers to contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections from the Dhaka-15 constituency.
A party delegation led by Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer submitted the nomination at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon to Returning Officer for Dhaka-13 and Dhaka-15, and Regional Election Officer Md. Yunus Ali.
Speaking after the submission, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer said the party hopes for a free, fair, and credible election and expects the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field. He noted that while the commission has done much, more work remains to improve the electoral environment.
Regarding seat allocation among allied parties in the 300 constituencies, Jubayer said most candidates have been finalised and further details may be announced overnight. He added that Jamaat’s seat-sharing arrangement is not part of any electoral coalition but expects it to be stronger than any other alliance. Each party will contest under its own symbol, with others offering support.
Another Assistant Secretary General, Maulana Abdul Halim, said another political party is set to join their alliance, with details to be announced later.
Other aspirants for Dhaka-15 include BNP’s Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, NCP’s Alamgir Ferdous, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s SM Fazlul Haque, Gonoforum’s AKM Shafiqul Islam, and Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) candidate Dr. Ahmad Sajedul Haque Rubel.
Returning Officer Md. Yunus Ali confirmed that so far, 33 candidates have collected nomination papers for Dhaka-13 and Dhaka-15, with nine having officially submitted them.
