Japan hit by another strong quake within four days
Japan’s northeastern region was struck by another powerful earthquake on Friday (December 12), just four days after a major tremor in the same area, reports BBC.
The latest quake, measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale, prompted the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to issue a tsunami warning.
According to the JMA, the quake was recorded at 11:44am (local time), with its epicenter located 20 kilometers beneath the seabed off the coast of Aomori in northern Honshu.
On Monday, the region experienced a stronger 7.5-magnitude earthquake, also originating offshore.
Authorities have urged residents in Honshu, Hokkaido and Chiba—east of Tokyo—to remain alert, warning that the latest tremor is likely an aftershock of Monday’s quake and that further, stronger earthquakes may follow.
No casualties or major damage have been reported so far.
