Japan-Netherlands goalless in first half
The first half of the match between Japan and the Netherlands in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup ended in a goalless draw. Both teams created several chances in attack and counterattack, but neither found the net.
From the beginning of the match, the two teams tried to put each other under pressure with ball possession and attack. However, the solidity of the defense and the vigilance of the goalkeepers kept the scoreline unchanged.
The most notable chance of the first half came in the 34th minute. Daniel Malen's powerful header from the corner was blocked with great skill by Japan goalkeeper Gion Suzuki. His save deprived the Netherlands of taking the lead.
Meanwhile, Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk set a unique record in the match. This was his 66th match for club and national team in the 2025-26 season, and he was in the starting eleven in all of them.
Although there were no goals in the first half, the match was not lacking in excitement. The second half could see both teams playing more aggressive football in search of goals.
