Ashraful Alam Liton, the independent candidate from Jashore-1, has boycotted the poll citing vote rigging. Liton, also the former mayor, made the declaration while addressing a press briefing at his election campaign office on Sunday. He claimed that supporters of Awami League nominated candidate were stuffing ballots publicly, hurling crude bombs, and forced his 55 polling agents to leave the voting centres.

ভোট কারচুপির অভিযোগ এনে নির্বাচন থেকে সরে দাঁড়ালেন যশোর-১ (শার্শা) আসনের স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী আশরাফুল আলম লিটন। রোববার (৭ জানুয়ারি) সকাল সাড়ে ১১টার দিকে শার্শা পৌর কার্যালয়ে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে নির্বাচন থেকে সরে দাঁড়ানোর ঘোষণা দেন তিনি। ট্রাক প্রর্তীকের প্রার্থী আশরাফুল আলম লিটন বলেন, ‘সকাল থেকে নৌকা প্রার্থী ভোট কারচুপি করছে। ট্রাকের পোলিং এজেন্টদের কেন্দ্র থেকে বের করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। তারা জোর করে ভোট দিয়ে নিচ্ছেন। আমার এজেন্টদের মারধর করা হচ্ছে। আমি এ নির্বাচন বয়কট করলাম।’
