Jhenaidah-4: Independent candidate's election office vandalised
The election offices of independent candidate Saiful Islam Firoz, bearing the Cap and Bowl symbol in Jhenaidah-4 constituency, have been attacked and vandalised. An unexploded cocktail was recovered by law enforcement during the incident.
The attacks occurred on Thursday, January 5, around 8 pm on two election offices in Nishchintapur village of Kaliganj town and Helai village. Tension has been prevailing in the area following the incident. Panic spread in the area upon the recovery of a cocktail-like object.
Local residents said that around 8 pm, eight people on four motorcycles attacked the election office of independent candidate Saiful Islam Firoz in the Nishchintapur area. They were carrying sharp weapons at the time. They carried out a surprise attack, vandalising office tables, chairs, and three motorcycles. A cocktail was then thrown inside the office, but it did not explode. Later, police recovered a cocktail.
Additionally, an eight-member group attacked another election office of independent candidate Saiful Islam Firoz in Helai village under the municipality. They vandalised the chairs in the office and quickly fled on motorcycles. During this time, local residents identified two of the assailants.
Nur Islam, a local youth from Helai village, said, "Around 8 pm, I along with Motiar and Mosharraf were sitting at the election office of the Cap and Bowl symbol candidate. Suddenly, an eight-member group arrived on four motorcycles and vandalised the office. Two of them were identified. They are Shaon and Munna from Foyla village."
Independent candidate Saiful Islam Firoz said, "I was in Furshandi and Ghorshal unions on Thursday. Suddenly, I heard that two of my offices in Nishchintapur and Helai village were vandalised. Local residents have identified the perpetrators. If the administration does not take action against them, the environment for a fair election will be disrupted. My supporters are showing utmost patience."
