Joe Root draws level with Sachin Tendulkar's Test record
England captain Joe Root has equalled Sachin Tendulkar's world record for the most half-centuries in Test cricket after scoring a composed 66 against Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley.
The 66 was Root's 68th Test half-century in his 167th match, bringing him level with India batting great Tendulkar, who reached the same mark in 200 Tests.
Root's latest milestone means he and Tendulkar now jointly hold the record for the most 50-plus scores without converting them into centuries in Test cricket.
Former West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is third on the list with 66 half-centuries from 164 Tests.
Australia great Allan Border and India's Rahul Dravid share fourth place with 63 half-centuries each. Border achieved the mark in 156 Tests, while Dravid did so in 164.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is sixth with 62 half-centuries in 168 Tests.
