Just speak: Gemini can now handle tasks across Gmail, Docs and Keep

Google is expanding Gemini beyond a question-answering tool, allowing users to complete everyday tasks in Gmail, Google Docs and Google Keep through voice commands.

The new features—Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live—let users interact with Gemini conversationally, meaning they can give instructions and ask follow-up questions without repeatedly explaining the context.

With Gmail Live, users can ask Gemini to search their inbox for specific information across individual or multiple emails. For example, Gemini can find a flight gate number from travel-related emails or identify recent important messages from a child’s school.

Docs Live is designed to assist with writing and document creation. Users can speak their ideas, even if they are scattered or unstructured, and Gemini can turn them into a structured draft. They can also ask it to adjust the language, tone or format of the document.

With the user’s permission, Docs Live can draw on relevant information from Gmail, Google Drive, Google Chat and the web to help prepare documents.

Keep Live focuses on quick note-taking. Users can simply speak their thoughts, shopping lists, tasks or ideas, and Gemini can organise them into notes or lists, reducing the need for typing when information needs to be captured quickly.

Google said the new voice features are being rolled out gradually. Gmail Live requires a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra subscription, while Docs Live and Keep Live require Google AI Pro or Ultra.

The features are initially available on mobile devices in English. Google also plans to make them available to business Workspace users soon.
