Khamenei killed in US-Israel attack, confirms Iran
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in joint US-Israeli attacks, Iranian media confirmed on Sunday, March 1.
A 40-day mourning period has been declared in Iran following his death.
The reports were confirmed by Fars News agency, Tasnim and the national media outlet IRNA.
Iran's Fars news agency reported that Khamenei was killed at his office while "performing his assigned duties" in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Iran's Supreme Leader had been killed. In a post on Truth Social around midnight Bangladesh time, Trump called Khamenei "the most brutal person in history".
On Saturday morning, Israeli and US forces launched a joint attack targeting his compound. In response, Iran launched strikes on US bases across the Middle East, including in Israel. Netanyahu first announced Khamenei's death on Saturday night, followed by Trump, though Tehran initially did not confirm the reports.
Khamenei's daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and grandson killed
Iranian media on Sunday confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Earlier, state media reported that Khamenei's daughter, son-in-law and grandson were killed in the US-Israeli strikes. Fars News Agency also reported that one of his daughters-in-law lost her life in the attack.
IRGC threatens 'most destructive attack in history' in response to Khamenei killing
Following Khamenei's death, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement announcing the launch of the most destructive offensive operation in Iran's history. It said the strikes would begin very soon and would target occupied territories and US military bases.
