'Koffee with Karan' to end with ninth season after 22 years
The long journey of 'Koffee with Karan', one of Bollywood's most popular celebrity talk shows, is now coming to an end. Host and producer Karan Johar has said that the ninth season of the show, which has been entertaining audiences for nearly 22 years, will be its final season.
Karan himself made the announcement in an emotional message on social media on Wednesday, September 30. Announcing the decision to bid farewell, he said some journeys do not end by plan. But at some point, one feels it is the right time to say goodbye. In his words, although saying goodbye is emotional, that time has now come.
Karan also spoke about his plans for the final season. He said his main goal this season will be to sit down for a coffee chat one last time with gratitude and love with those stars whose participation brought the show to where it is today.
Karan also looked back on the early days of 'Koffee with Karan'. In 2004, he first discussed the show with his father and producer Yash Johar. The plan was to bring two stars face to face and have an open chat about their personal lives, careers and various matters. However, hearing his son's plan, Yash Johar jokingly asked who would pay for it if he only brought friends on to chat.
Over its long journey, the show has become one of the most familiar stages for Bollywood stars to chat. Starting in 2004, 'Koffee with Karan' has so far aired 161 episodes across eight seasons.
The ninth season is set to bring stars' chats to audiences one last time. Streaming of 'Koffee with Karan Season 9' will begin on JioHotstar from October 14. The show's 22-year journey will end with this season.
