Koica president meets CA, focus on boosting Bangladesh–Korea development cooperation

Koica president Chang Won-sam paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on December 1 at the state guesthouse Jamuna.

During the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening development cooperation, increasing investment, expanding skills training, and enhancing support for Bangladesh’s smooth graduation from the LDC category.

Chang Won-sam expressed delight at returning to Bangladesh and conveyed the Korean president’s warm greetings.

He reiterated Koica’s commitment to supporting the political and development reforms undertaken by Bangladesh’s interim government.

The chief adviser thanked Chang Won-sam for the visit and expressed hope that Bangladesh and Korea would continue progressing together.

Highlighting the government’s economic vision, the chief adviser urged Korean investors and companies to consider Bangladesh as a long-term strategic partner in production and trade.

He said Bangladesh aims to become a manufacturing hub, adding that the country has the manpower, capacity and a motivated young workforce to support global production.

He also emphasised expanding cooperation in areas such as language education, health services and skills development.

The chief adviser called for the expansion of Koica’s Korean language training programmes to increase educational, training and employment opportunities for Bangladeshi youth in Korea. He also stressed the need for greater support in health-related training, noting the rising global demand for skilled nurses and healthcare workers.

In response, Chang Won-sam expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the skills and education sectors.

The meeting was attended by the chief adviser’s special envoy for international affairs Lutfey Siddiqi and SDG affairs coordinator Lamia Morshed.
