Kolkata's Madhumita coming to Dhaka as 'Gulshan's Chameli'
Tollywood's popular actress Madhumita Sarkar is set to make her debut in Dhaka cinema. She will play the central character in director Mohammad Iqbal's film 'Gulshan's Chameli'. Both the director and the actress have confirmed the matter to the media.
Madhumita gained widespread recognition in both West Bengal and Bangladesh for her role as 'Pakhi' in the serial 'Bojhena She Bojhena'. Although she previously acted in the drama 'Meghbalika' opposite Mosharraf Karim in 2016, this will be her first appearance in a Bangladeshi film.
'Gulshan's Chameli' revolves around politics, abuse of power and the dark realities of high society. The central character is a sex worker who, despite being innocent, falls victim to the ruthless conspiracies of the powerful. Expressing her excitement about the role, Madhumita said she loved both the story and the character, noting that the multi-layered nature of the role offers ample scope for performance.
Director Mohammad Iqbal said pre-production work is currently underway. The muhurat will be held on August 1, and the names of other cast members will also be announced on that day. Although the film was announced five years ago, shooting could not begin due to various reasons.
Written by Abdullah Zahir Babu, 'Gulshan's Chameli' is expected to begin shooting this year. According to the makers' plans, the film is scheduled for release during an Eid holiday next year.
