Kurigram temperature drops to 12°C
Dense fog and chilly winds have worsened the hardship of char dwellers in Kurigram. At 6am today, Tuesday, December 2, the district recorded its lowest temperature at 12°C at the Rajarhat Weather Observatory.
Cold winds seem to have arrived early in the northern district, with the intensity of winter increasing daily, accompanied by dense fog and biting air.
Md Jalil Mia, 60, a horse-cart puller from Jatrapur Union, said, “The cold is getting worse every day. Because of the wind and thick fog, it is very hard to pull the cart. My hands and feet feel frozen.”
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Abdul Matin said Tk 5.4 million has been allocated for nine upazilas, Tk 600,000 each. Blankets are being purchased and will be distributed among those affected by the cold.
Subal Chandra Sarkar, acting officer of the Rajarhat Weather Observatory, confirmed that Tuesday’s temperature was recorded at 12°C.
