Kuwait expels two Iranian diplomats over attacks
Kuwait has declared two members of Iran's diplomatic mission persona non grata and ordered them to leave the country within 24 hours, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Kuwaiti government summoned Iran's Charge d'Affaires and informed him of the decision. Kuwait also decided to reduce the size of Iran's diplomatic mission.
In a statement on X, Kuwait's foreign ministry said Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Sulaiman Al-Mashaan had handed an official protest note to the acting head of the Iranian embassy, Hamid Yaqoubi Far, over ongoing attacks.
Al-Mashaan said the decision was made in response to "successive and blatant" attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, which he said violated Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Kuwait completely rejected any notion that its territory or airspace had been used for hostile acts against another country. Al-Mashaan also dismissed Iran's claim that the United States had launched attacks from Kuwait, calling such allegations baseless.
The decision came hours after Kuwaiti authorities reported that several civilian and key installations, including the international airport, had been targeted by fresh Iranian missile and drone attacks, killing one person and wounding dozens.
