A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate to death for murdering a friend after a dispute over the unauthorised posting of his wife's personal photographs on Facebook and the friend's refusal to remove them.

The verdict was delivered on Tuesday (Nov 3), Gulf News, a Middle East-based news outlet, reported, citing Kuwait's Public Prosecution Office.

The report did not disclose the names, ages or workplaces of the convicted Bangladeshi and the victim, or the exact location, date and time of the killing.

According to Gulf News, the victim and the accused had previously been friends. During a visit to the accused's home, the victim took photographs of his friend's wife without her permission and later posted them on Facebook.

After learning about the posts, the accused asked his friend to remove the photographs. He claimed that the images had attracted offensive comments about his wife. However, the friend refused to delete them and later posted more photographs of her on Facebook. The incident led to disputes and tensions in the accused's marital life.

The accused then planned to take revenge on his friend. According to prosecutors, he obtained a knife and waited outside the victim's workplace. After confirming that his friend was there, he waited for him to come out.

When the victim eventually emerged, the accused attacked him and repeatedly stabbed him in the head and other parts of his body. The victim died from the attack.

During the court hearing, the accused admitted to the murder. He said the dispute with his friend had begun over the photographs of his wife being taken and posted on social media. He also admitted that he had planned the killing after becoming enraged by his friend's refusal to remove the images and his subsequent posting of more photographs.

The court considered the murder intentional and premeditated. Finding the charges proven, it sentenced the Bangladeshi expatriate to death.
