Labuschagne eyes end to Test century drought against Bangladesh

Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne is hoping to end his lengthy Test century drought in the upcoming series against Bangladesh after an extended period of technical work on his batting.

Despite scoring 11 Test centuries, Labuschagne has not reached three figures since his 111 against England at Manchester in July 2023. The 32-year-old has played 21 Tests since then without adding another hundred to his tally.

He came closest in Christchurch in 2024, when he was dismissed for 90 against New Zealand, falling just short of ending the drought.

Labuschagne believes the Bangladesh series presents an ideal opportunity to rediscover his best form.

Reflecting on his struggles, the Australian said technical flaws had gradually crept into his batting over the past four to five years, forcing him to rely on short-term fixes rather than addressing the underlying issues.

He added that the recent break allowed him to focus on rebuilding the fundamentals of his game, expressing confidence that the work would translate into improved performances on the field.

Labuschagne said he spent the last eight weeks working extensively on the basics of his batting, refining both his technique and overall approach in a bid to return to his peak form.
