With his 10th-minute strike against Saudi Arabia, Spain’s Lamine Yamal netted his first-ever World Cup goal and achieved a historic footballing milestone in the process.

For nearly seven decades, the record for the youngest player (aged 18 or under) to score the opening goal of a World Cup match belonged to just one man: Pelé. The Brazilian legend accomplished the feat at the age of 17 against Wales during the 1958 World Cup. Now, 68 years later, the 18-year-old Yamal has etched his name alongside Pelé by equaling this unique record.

The match marked Yamal's very first start in this World Cup tournament. Handed a spot in the opening XI, the Barcelona starlet took just ten minutes to make his presence felt on the global stage.
