Legendary actor Ilias Javed no more

Popular actor of Bangladesh’s golden cinema era, Ilias Javed, passed away today, Wednesday, January 21, after a long battle with cancer. He was 82 years old at the time of his death.

Sony Rahman, Executive Member of the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association, confirmed the news to the media, saying, “Javed Bhai was unwell for a long time. Today he has bid his final farewell. Everyone should pray for the peace of his soul.”

Ilias Javed began his acting career in 1964 with the Urdu film Nayi Zindagi. His popularity among audiences increased with the 1966 Bengali film Payel, in which his heroine was Shabana.

Although he debuted as a dance director, he later appeared as a leading actor in over a hundred films. He is best known for the film Nishan.

Ilias Javed was born in 1944 in Peshawar, British India. Later, he moved with his family to Punjab. In his personal life, he married actress Dolly Chowdhury in 1984.
