Legendary lyricist-composer Abu Zafar passes away

Legendary lyricist and composer Abu Zafar, known for creating many iconic songs, has passed away. He breathed his last on Thursday night (December 5) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.

His daughter, Zian Faria, confirmed his death. Abu Zafar, aged 82, had been battling age-related health issues for a while.

Abu Zafar’s body is being transported to his hometown of Kushtia, where his funeral will take place at the Kushtia Government College grounds after Asr prayers today.

He was not only a musician but also a poet and a teacher. Alongside his teaching career, he made significant contributions to the music world. He served as a professor in the Bengali Department at Chuadanga College and Kushtia Government College.

Abu Zafar was a regular singer and lyricist for Rajshahi and Dhaka Radio and Television. He composed and performed most of his songs, with many of his popular tracks featuring the voice of his ex-wife, the celebrated singer Farida Parveen.

Some of his famous compositions include "Ei Podda Ei Meghna," "Tomra Bhulei Gechho Mollikadir Naam," and "Nindar Kata Jodi Na Bidhilo Gaye."

Abu Zafar was also an accomplished author, with notable works including Ratri Purono Din (poetry), Bazare Durnam Tobu Tumi E Shorbossho (poetry), and Biplobottor Soviet Kobita (translated poetry).
