Bonnie Tyler, the legendary Welsh singer who dominated the global music scene in the 1980s, has passed away. Best known for her iconic hits "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero," the singer died at the age of 75 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Portugal, her family confirmed on Wednesday (July 8).

According to her family, Bonnie Tyler had been unwell for some time. She underwent emergency bowel surgery in May this year, after which she was placed in a medically induced coma under close medical supervision. Although she later regained consciousness, her physical condition did not improve, and she ultimately succumbed to health complications.

Born Gaynor Hopkins on June 8, 1951, in Wales, she achieved global fame under her stage name, Bonnie Tyler. Her distinctively husky voice set her apart from her contemporaries. While her international success began in 1977 with the hit "It's a Heartache," it was the 1983 release of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" that cemented her status as a global music icon. The song topped charts in numerous countries, including the UK and the US, and remains celebrated as one of the greatest power ballads of all time.

Released during the same era, her track "Holding Out for a Hero" also achieved massive popularity. Both songs have since been featured in countless films, television shows, and commercials, retaining their appeal across generations.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Bonnie Tyler released 18 studio albums. She received multiple Grammy and Brit Award nominations and was honored with the UK's prestigious MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her outstanding contributions to music.
