Lightning struck the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, as heavy rain and strong winds swept through Dubai, according to images shared on social media by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The incident took place amid persistent rainfall and gusty conditions that began on Thursday (December 18). Despite the dramatic strike, no damage was reported to the 163-storey skyscraper, officials said.

Authorities noted that the Burj Khalifa was specifically engineered with advanced lightning protection systems, allowing it to safely withstand such natural events.

Sharing the image on Instagram, the Crown Prince warned residents that more rain-heavy days are expected and urged people to remain prepared for adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the unstable weather is being driven by a low-pressure system forming over the Red Sea. Similar conditions are likely to persist over the coming days.

Standing at 2,717 feet, the Burj Khalifa remains the tallest structure in the world.
