Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez has dismissed criticism of refereeing at the FIFA World Cup, insisting match officials have performed "an excellent job" despite the controversy surrounding his side's dramatic last-16 victory over Egypt.

Argentina booked their place in the quarter-finals after staging a remarkable comeback from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over Egypt. The match sparked protests from the Egyptian Football Association, which questioned several officiating decisions, including the VAR review that ruled out a goal by Mostafa Zico.

However, Martinez refused to be drawn into the debate, echoing FIFA's stance that the focus should remain on football rather than officiating.

"No, absolutely nothing," Martinez told reporters when asked about the refereeing controversy. "I think they are doing an excellent job. That's something for you (the media), who sometimes generate the controversies. We concern ourselves with giving our best on the pitch and nothing more."

Argentina now turn their attention to Sunday's quarter-final against Switzerland in Kansas City, with Martinez describing the European side as a dangerous opponent deserving of respect.

"What defines this team is respect for every opponent," he said. "If Switzerland are in the quarter-finals, it's because they have earned it. They are physically strong, dangerous from set-pieces and always try to play football. I think it will be a great match."

Defender Cristian Romero, who scored Argentina's opening goal against Egypt, said the reigning champions remain focused on improving their own performances rather than worrying about their opponents.

"Regardless of who we face, we always focus on ourselves and on correcting the mistakes we have," Romero said.
