Liton Das faces BCB disciplinary hearing over unauthorised China trip

Bangladesh T20 captain Liton Kumar Das has been summoned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) disciplinary committee for travelling to China without informing the board while undergoing treatment for an injury. The BCB has claimed that as a centrally contracted cricketer, the wicketkeeper-batter violated the code of conduct by travelling abroad without notifying the board.

Liton is scheduled to travel to Singapore on Monday for a final assessment of his injury. The injury had forced him to leave the Zimbabwe tour prematurely. He is also unable to play in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) for the same reason.

The BCB did not take the matter lightly, as Liton had not informed the board about his China trip. A BCB source said Liton was summoned to explain why and with whose permission he had travelled to China .

BCB director Siraj Uddin Mohammad Alamgir confirmed that a hearing was held on Sunday. He said, "Liton has given his statement at the hearing. The entire matter will be reviewed in consultation with the medical committee. However, from what I have heard so far, it seems he has told the truth".

Alamgir added, "Liton has been playing international cricket for a long time. He does not have a significant record of disciplinary breach in his career. We are considering that as well."

Alamgir believes Liton was somewhat frustrated at not being able to play in the Lanka Premier League. He said, "This is primarily a communication gap. It was not an intentional attempt to break the rules. But even if there is a communication gap, he has breached the terms of his contract" .

He also stated, "Although the matter is minor, we must take action so that he is more careful in the future. The board president also wants this message to reach all cricketers so that everyone abides by the rules properly."

Alamgir made it clear, "The board will not accept any breach of discipline by any cricketer, no matter how big a player he is." He also advised Liton not to take the matter personally.
