Liton's injury costs Tk 25 lakh, BCB medical department faces investigation

Questions have been raised over the management of wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das's injury, putting the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) medical department under scrutiny. The board has spent approximately Tk 25 lakh on his treatment, travel to Singapore and other related expenses .

Liton sustained an injury to his left quadriceps during an ODI against Australia. Initially, it was not considered serious, and he was named in the T20 squad as well as the tour of Zimbabwe . However, he was unable to play any match due to the injury .

Multiple scans in Bangladesh did not reveal any major issue. But as the pain persisted, he was sent to Singapore for further evaluation, where swelling was detected. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation .

The incident has led to concerns over the board's image, and an official explanation has been sought from the medical department. BCB President Tamim Iqbal has also reportedly issued a stern message to those concerned .

Chief selector Habibul Bashar said Liton was included in the squad based on clearance from the medical department, as the scan reports at the time did not show any serious problem. However, the situation became complicated when the pain did not subside .

Liton is not the only player affected; Nahid Rana, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan are also currently injured. Amid questions over injury management of multiple players, the BCB has initiated an investigation into the medical department's activities, led by a board director. A detailed report will be submitted after the investigation .
