Liverpool on brink of Premier League glory
Liverpool is closing in on the Premier League title. On Sunday night (April 20), they secured a 1-0 victory over Leicester City at King Power Stadium. The match-winner was English midfielder Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute. With this crucial win, the Reds are now just a step away from securing the championship.
If Liverpool defeat Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming match on April 27, they will secure the Premier League title with four games to spare. However, if fellow title contenders Arsenal lose their next match against Crystal Palace on April 23, Liverpool could be crowned champions even before facing Tottenham.
Liverpool currently lead the Premier League table with 79 points from 33 matches. They need just 3 more points from their remaining 5 games to secure the title. A single win would put them out of reach for any other team. Arsenal, sitting second with 66 points from the same number of games, will be eliminated from the title race if they lose one more match or if Liverpool register another victory.
If Liverpool win one more match, their points total will rise to 82, making it mathematically impossible for Arsenal to catch up. Even with victories in all their remaining games, Arsenal can only reach 81 points. Should Liverpool clinch the title, they will equal Manchester United's record of 20 Premier League titles — the most in league history. The Reds last lifted the trophy in the 2019–2020 season.
