Defending champions Argentina took control early against Jordan, opening a 1-0 lead in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J clash thanks to a 19th-minute strike from Giovani Lo Celso.

The breakthrough came shortly after a Jordanian defender was shown a yellow card in the 17th minute. Argentina quickly capitalized on the ensuing pressure, with Lo Celso finding the back of the net just two minutes later to hand La Albiceleste a deserved advantage.

Argentina has dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, enjoying 84 percent possession compared to Jordan's 16 percent. The South American giants have registered two shots, including one on target, while Jordan is yet to attempt a single effort on goal.

Lionel Scaloni's side has also earned the game's only corner, with both teams committing one foul each so far. Jordan remains the only side to receive a booking.

Argentina's attacking trio, led by Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez, has kept Jordan's defense under constant pressure, while Leandro Paredes and Exequiel Palacios have dictated play from midfield and controlled the tempo of the contest.

Jordan, meanwhile, has adopted a defensive 5-4-1 formation in an effort to contain the reigning world champions. However, with no shots and just 16 percent possession, the Middle Eastern side has spent most of the opening stages focused on defending rather than threatening Argentina's goal.
