Love People Day: A reminder to choose kindness, compassion

Love has the power to bring people closer, strengthen relationships and make everyday life more humane. Love People Day, observed on September 30 each year, encourages people to look beyond differences and treat others with kindness, respect and compassion.

The day carries a simple message: love should not be limited by relationships, familiarity or social boundaries. Family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues and even strangers all deserve dignity and kindness. A helping hand, a few sincere words or simply being there for someone in need can be meaningful expressions of care.

Love People Day was launched in 2017 by Life Changers International Church in Chicago, Illinois. Senior Pastor Reggie and London Royal initiated the observance to promote unconditional love and humanitarian values. The initiative was intended not only to dedicate a day to celebrating love, but also to encourage people to make compassion and service part of their everyday lives.

The observance encourages people to set aside differences of race, religion, ethnicity and identity and build stronger bonds through empathy and mutual respect. Helping vulnerable people, volunteering, supporting community initiatives and expressing gratitude to loved ones are among the ways people can mark the day.

No elaborate celebration is necessary. Spending time with an elderly person, helping someone struggling, encouraging a stranger or quietly doing something kind can all carry the spirit of the occasion. Writing a heartfelt letter, giving someone a poem or drawing, or simply sharing quality time with family can also make the day meaningful.

More importantly, Love People Day serves as a reminder that compassion should not be confined to a single date on the calendar. When kindness, respect and empathy become part of everyday behaviour, small gestures of love can help create a more caring and connected society.
