Despite being widely discussed as a strong contender, Cricket organizer Mahbubul Anam has officially withdrawn his name from the race for the presidency of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), ahead of the October elections.

Anam has decided not to contest, citing concerns over the fairness of the election process.

Speaking to reporters, Anam said, “I had earlier mentioned that holding an election without a proper panel is difficult. Given the current situation, there is no environment for a fair election.”

Anam, who currently chairs the BCB Grounds Committee and the BPL Governing Council, was considered a prominent challenger in the upcoming polls. His withdrawal has reportedly eased pressure on other potential candidates.

Sources indicate that various business groups have begun taking control of multiple clubs to influence voting. A group reportedly led by a Mohammedan official has gained control of 11 clubs.

Additionally, five clubs are said to be aligned with Gazi Group and three with Lutfar Rahman Badal, bringing their combined voting power to 19. Further attempts are reportedly underway to secure more clubs.

In light of these developments, Anam said he no longer wishes to be part of a contest lacking transparency and fairness.
