Mahmudullah Riyad has been appointed as the mentor of the Bangladesh Under-19 national team. The BCB has finalised the appointment based on an understanding between both parties, a senior BCB official confirmed to the media. He will carry out these responsibilities alongside playing domestic cricket.

Mahmudullah is expected to work with the youth team until the 2028 Under-19 World Cup, which will be hosted by Bangladesh . The BCB's current policymakers are making efforts to involve retired senior cricketers with the age-group teams . In line with this, left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was recently appointed as the spin bowling coach of the BCB's high-performance unit.

A BCB official stated that Mahmudullah will guide players during youth camps and also accompany the team for series or tournaments at home and abroad. Having played with these age-group players in the national team, his experience and respect will be invaluable.

Mahmudullah retired from international cricket after the 2025 Champions Trophy . He has so far played 50 Tests, 239 ODIs and 141 T20Is for Bangladesh, amassing over 11,000 runs and taking more than 160 wickets across all three formats . Despite retiring from international cricket, he remains active in domestic cricket, representing Rangpur Riders in the BPL and Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League .
