Mahmudullah smashes century in adverse conditions
Mahmudullah Riyad once again proved why he is called the 'silent killer' of Bangladtesh team. Though he was not able to win the match for the team at the Wenkhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, he saved the team from major embarrassment against South Africa. He took the team, who lost top 6 batters for just 81 runs, to 233.
Chasing the huge target of 383 runs, Bangladesh fell into an extreme batting disaster. Tanzid Hasan Tamim (12), Nazmul Hossain Shanto (0), captain Shakib Al Hasan (1), Mushfiqur Rahim (8), Liton Kumar Das (22) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz returned to the Pavilion with 81 runs on the scoreboard. Then Mahmudullah started the fight, making a partnership of 41 runs for the seventh wicket with Nasum Ahmed. Hasan Mahmud came to the crease when Nasum departed scoring 19 runs. Mahmudullah and Hasan Mahmud (15) added 37 more runs in the eighth wicket.
Mahmudullah made a 68-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Mustafiz. 'The silent killer' completed the fourth century of his ODI career in this partnership. Mahmudullah scored 111 runs off 111 balls with 4 sixes and 11 fours. Mahmudullah achieved four centuries in ODIs so far, three of them came in the World Cup.
Despite Mahmudullah's such heroics, the Bangladesh team left the field with a defeat of 149 runs. This is Bangladesh's fourth consecutive defeat in this World Cup.
