Malaysia has announced a work-from-home policy for government offices to face the growing fuel crisis triggered by disruptions in oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the measure, approved by the cabinet, will take effect from April 15, reports AFP.

Details of the policy will be announced soon, he said.

The move comes as escalating tensions involving Iran have disrupted oil flows through the vital shipping route, driving up global crude prices and affecting energy supplies across parts of Asia.

Anwar also announced a reduction in subsidised fuel purchase limits, capping it at 200 litres per person, down from the previous 300 litres. Prices of non-subsidised fuel will now be adjusted in line with global market rates.

Malaysia, where fuel prices are heavily subsidised, currently sells unleaded petrol at around 1.99 ringgit per litre.
