Malaysia limits multiple-entry visas for Bangladeshis, 30 other nationalities

Malaysia has restricted multiple-entry visa (MEV) facilities for citizens of Bangladesh and 30 other countries, meaning Bangladeshi visitors will generally have to apply for single-entry visas for tourism and social visits.

The new policy took effect on September 1, 2026, according to a notice published by Malaysia’s Immigration Department.

Under the revised rules, MEVs will no longer be issued broadly to nationals of all countries for visit purposes. Instead, multiple-entry visas will be available only for specific travel categories, including business, medical treatment, fly-and-cruise travel and wedding tourism.

The restriction applies to visit or social visas and does not affect work permits or employment-related visas held by Bangladeshi and other foreign workers in Malaysia.

The Immigration Department has also published a list of the 31 countries whose nationals are excluded from the general MEV facility.

For Bangladeshi tourists, the change means the previous opportunity to obtain a one-year multiple-entry visa for repeated visits to Malaysia will be significantly limited, with single-entry visas becoming the standard option for ordinary tourism.
