Mamata Banerjee appears at Kolkata High Court in lawyer's attire
Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appeared at the Kolkata High Court on Thursday, May 14, dressed in a lawyer's black coat and gown. She attended a hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Sujay Pal regarding a case related to post-election violence.
The Trinamool Congress chief arrived at the court premises shortly before 11:00 am, drawing a crowd of curious supporters.
In a video posted on social media by the Trinamool Congress, the party wrote, "Once again, she has shown why she is different from the rest. She never leaves the people of West Bengal alone in times of need. She does not stop fighting for truth, justice and constitutional values. With unparalleled courage and conviction, she repeatedly stands up against the politics of hatred."
Addressing the Chief Justice's bench, Mamata said, "I am arguing at the Kolkata High Court for the first time. My name was enrolled in the Bar Council in 1985. I have renewed my membership since then. After the elections, children, women and Muslims are being shown no mercy. Married women are being threatened with rape. Such complaints are coming every day. Homes are being looted and set on fire. Police are taking no action. If the court permits, I will mention these complaints in an additional affidavit. Save the people of the state. This is not a bulldozer state. This is West Bengal, please save its people."
