Mamata slams BSF for border killing
Chief Minister of Indian state of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has once again come out against the Border Security Force (BSF) of India over the killing of Bangladeshis on the India-Bangladesh border.
She said, “If someone commits any crime BSF can take legal action against him. They can file a case against him. But instead of doing that, why did the BSF personnel kill people (Bangladeshi citizens).
Mamata also raised the question why no action will be taken against the BSF for such murders.
Speaking at a rally at Dharmatala in Kolkata on the occasion of International Women's Day, Mamata slammed the BSF for the border killings and said, "Our police received a complaint from Bangladesh on Wednesday over the torture and killing of an educated ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) priest who was a Bangladeshi citizen.”
“Bangladesh has raised the complaint that our people have killed a Bangladeshi citizen here (in West Bengal). Isn't it a bad example?” Mamata questioned.
Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee said, “The Enforcement Directorate (ED) files a money laundering case and arrests our (Trinamool Congress) leader, even if he does not commit any crime. But when the BSF kills citizens of other countries Why is there no arrest against them? Why not take legal action against them?”
“If BSF thought it was Bangladeshi, they could have taken legal action against them in case of any wrongdoings. But they have no right to kill anyone,” she added.
The chief minister, however, did not say anything clearly about when the priest's killing took place or in which part of the border it took place.
Mamata’s outburst against the BSF ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal has created a sensation. This is not the first time that Mamata has complained about BSF. She had questioned the BSF's jurisdiction on several occasions before. She also accused the BSF of atrocities on the West Bengal villagers after entering the village.
