Manchester City reach fourth straight FA Cup Final
Manchester City booked a record fourth consecutive spot in the FA Cup Final after staging a dramatic late comeback to defeat Southampton 2–1 on Saturday (April 25).
Pep Guardiola’s side looked set for defeat when Southampton took a 79th-minute lead through Finn Azaz, raising hopes of their first final appearance since 2003. But City responded swiftly in the closing stages to turn the match around.
An equaliser came when a shot from Jérémy Doku deflected off a defender into the net, before Nico González sealed victory three minutes later with a powerful long-range strike.
The win keeps alive City’s pursuit of a domestic treble and underlines their dominance in English cup competitions. They will face either Leeds United or Chelsea in the final on May 16.
Southampton, who had been impressed by eliminating Arsenal in the quarter-finals, saw their 20-match unbeaten run come to an end despite a resilient performance.
Guardiola rotated heavily, making eight changes to the starting lineup and resting key players including Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva. City struggled in the first half but improved significantly after the introduction of Haaland, Doku and Sávio after the break.
Southampton goalkeeper Daniel Peretz made several crucial saves but was unable to stop González’s wining strike, as City secured another place in the final.
