Mashrafe calls for investigation into Jahanara’s allegations
National women’s cricket team player Jahanara Alam has brought allegations of sexual harassment against Manjurul Islam Manju, former selector and team manager of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team. Her allegations have sparked a storm in the country’s cricketing arena.
In response, former national team captain and ex-Member of Parliament Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has spoken out regarding the matter.
In a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday, November 7, Mashrafe wrote, “In the interest of Bangladesh cricket and the entire sports community, I hope the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will take Jahanara Alam’s allegations seriously. I also hope the BCB’s investigation committee will work independently and, if the allegations are proven true, ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible, so such incidents never happen again.”
He added, “May Bangladesh’s sporting arena be safe for everyone.”
Earlier, on Thursday, November 6, Jahanara Alam personally accused Manjurul Islam of sexual harassment. Following her complaint, the Bangladesh Cricket Board issued a press release announcing the formation of an investigation committee to look into the matter.
