France's attacking duo Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele have etched their names into FIFA World Cup history, becoming the first teammates since Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo in 2002 to each score at least five goals in a single tournament.

The milestone comes as France booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, powered by the prolific form of their two star forwards.

Mbappe has netted eight goals in the tournament so far, while Dembele has added five, making them the first teammate pairing in 24 years to reach the five-goal mark at the same World Cup.

The last duo to achieve the feat was Brazil's legendary strike pair Ronaldo (8 goals) and Rivaldo (5 goals) during the 2002 World Cup, a campaign that ended with the Selecao lifting the trophy.

With France also entering the tournament as one of the favourites, the statistical parallel has fuelled hopes that Didier Deschamps' side could follow Brazil's path and complete their title bid in 2026.
