Mbappe hat-trick powers Real Madrid past Sociedad

Kylian Mbappe struck a brilliant hat-trick as Real Madrid swept aside Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday (August 26), maintaining their perfect start to the La Liga season.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 40th minute when Federico Valverde found Mbappe, who cut past a defender before calmly finishing into the net.

Sociedad levelled four minutes later after a defensive mistake by the hosts. Luka Sucic collected the deflected ball inside the box and beat Thibaut Courtois with a composed finish.

The visitors could not contain Madrid after the break. Mbappe restored the lead in the 60th minute following a slick exchange with Jude Bellingham, before Vinicius Junior made it 3-1 eight minutes later.

Bellingham was again instrumental, winning the ball high up the pitch before delivering the final pass for Vinicius to finish.

Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, receiving a clever pass from Vinicius before firing a powerful shot from just outside the box.

Brahim Diaz appeared to add a fifth in stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

The victory gives Real Madrid six points from two matches and sends them to the top of the La Liga table on goal difference. Sevilla and Real Betis also have six points but trail the defending champions on goal difference.
