Medical services halted at NIOH for 2nd day amid unrest

All medical services at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Thursday, causing significant distress to patients.

Emergency and routine services were first halted on Wednesday following "tripartite clashes" on the hospital premises.

After two separate incidents over the past two days, hospital staff—including doctors and nurses—initiated a work stoppage yesterday morning, citing concerns over their safety and security.

When contacted, Zane Alam, acting director of the hospital, said around 1:45 pm, “I am currently outside the campus. All services remain suspended as per instructions from higher authorities.”

A meeting to address the ongoing situation was scheduled for Thursday afternoon, though Alam was unable to provide further details.
