Mehazabien Chowdhury acquitted in threat case

A Dhaka court dismissed a case against popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Ali Shan Chowdhury over alleged threats and intimidation.

Executive Magistrate Md. Adnan Zulfikar passed the clearence order on on Monday (January 12).

The case had accused the siblings of extorting Tk 27 lakh from a business associate under the pretext of making him a partner in a family business, and of threatening him with violence.

A Dhaka court had previously issued arrest warrants, but Mehazabien and her brother surrendered and were granted bail.

According to the case, the complainant paid a total of Tk 27 lakh in cash and mobile transactions over time, but the siblings delayed starting the business. When the complainant demanded repayment, they allegedly called him to a restaurant on Hatirjheel Road, verbally abused him, and issued threats, warning him not to visit their home and threatening his life.

The complainant, Amirul Islam, filed the case under Sections 107 and 117(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
