Mehzabin granted bail
Model and actress Mehzabin Chowdhury has been granted bail after surrendering to the court in a case filed against her for embezzling 2.7 million taka and for intimidation and threats.
On Sunday, November 16, in the evening, she appeared in Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court-3, before Judge Afroza Haque Tania, through her lawyer, and applied for bail. The court approved her bail. Court bench assistant Khorshed Alam confirmed that the bail hearing took place in the judge’s chambers.
According to court sources, although a date was fixed for the accused to appear, Mehzabin and her brother Alisan Chowdhury failed to attend, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants against them on November 10. A new date of December 18 was set for submitting a report regarding the arrest.
The case details state that Mehzabin Chowdhury, taking advantage of a long-term acquaintance with the complainant, promised to make him a partner in her new family business and received a total of 2.7 million taka via cash and bKash at different times. When the business did not commence, the complainant sought repayment, but Mehzabin allegedly delayed using various excuses.
On February 11, when the complainant asked for the money, Mehzabin and her brother asked him to meet on March 16 near a restaurant on Hatirjheel Road. There, they and 4–5 unidentified individuals verbally abused the complainant and threatened to “kill” him in front of his house. The complainant filed a report at Bhatar Police Station and was advised by the police to take legal action.
Later, a case was filed in the Executive Magistrate Court under Sections 107/117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure by Amirul Islam.
