Mentally tortured for five years, want speedy resolution: Pori Moni in court

Actress Pori Moni was scheduled to appear before a Dhaka court on Sunday for cross-examination in a case she filed over allegations of assault, threats and sexual harassment. However, she could not reach the court on time due to severe traffic congestion, causing the cross-examination to be postponed. The court has now set November 30 as the next date for her cross-examination.

Arriving at the Dhaka court premises around 2pm, Pori Moni spoke to reporters, sharing that she has been under immense mental stress due to the case for a long time.

"I believe only those who experience it truly know what one goes through. You face a lot of mental trauma when these dates come up. It makes me recall those events again. This is a mental torture for me," said the actress.

Expressing her desire for a swift conclusion to the case, Pori Moni stated, "I want this case to end soon. It is a hassle for me. My daughter had a vaccine two days ago. This is very troublesome for me. I couldn't rest properly. Managing everything—sleepless nights, giving time to children—and then attending court becomes a mental burden. This is a hassle for me."

"Five years have passed. Let the cross-examination finish as soon as possible. Let there be a resolution. Let there be an exemplary punishment. I pray to Allah that this ends very soon. I have no other demands," she added.

She further stated, "The love you all give me is an honour. Let the cross-examination happen properly on the next date and let it reach a resolution. Let the judgement come quickly—that is what I want. This is a huge hassle for me. Five years in court is enough. I don't want more."

Regarding the case, Pori Moni mentioned she is not considering any political party. "I won't look at any party. I will look at my case. I will look at the law. I don't think the law is divided for any party. The law stays in its place."

"I respect the law, which is why I have been waiting for five years—for them to be given a beautiful, exemplary punishment. I have nothing more to say," she said.

Earlier, around 11am, Pori Moni's lawyer, Nilanjona Rifat Suravi, informed the court that Pori Moni was on her way and requested that her cross-examination be scheduled for around 12pm. The court subsequently set the time for 12pm. Although she was called twice after that, she could not appear.

Lawyer Nilanjona Rifat Suravi explained that due to the traffic jam, Pori Moni could not reach the court by 12pm. Meanwhile, as hearings for other cases concluded, the accused also left. As a result, the cross-examination could not proceed that day.

The accused in the case filed by Pori Moni are Nasir Uddin, Tuhin Siddiqui Omi and Shahidul Alam. They are currently on bail. On Sunday, Shahidul Alam was absent and filed a time petition, which was granted by the court. The other two accused were present.
