Messi breaks MLS record in Inter Miami’s 4–2 win over Toronto FC
Lionel Messi inspired Inter Miami CF to a 4–2 victory over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, setting a new league record for the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions.
The Argentine captain reached the milestone in just 64 matches, recording 59 goals and 41 assists — the quickest in MLS history. He surpassed the previous record held by Sebastian Giovinco, who reached the mark in 95 matches.
Inter Miami took control of the match early, with Rodrigo De Paul opening the scoring late in the first half. Messi then set up Luis Suárez for the second goal shortly after the break, doubling the lead.
Sergio Reguilón added a third in the 68th minute before Messi scored himself in the 75th minute, finishing a sharp one-two with De Paul inside the box.
Toronto FC responded with two late goals through Emilio Aristizábal, but the comeback fell short as Inter Miami secured a comfortable win.
The result moves Inter Miami to second place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points from 12 matches, behind Nashville SC, who lead with 23 points from 11 games.
