Messi's hat-trick helps Miami break MLS points record
Inter Miami set a new MLS regular season points record with 74 after defeating the New England Revolution 6-2, thanks to Lionel Messi’s second hat-trick of the week and Luis Suarez's brace.
Miami’s win on Sunday morning (Bangladesh time), in their final game of the regular season, surpassed the previous record of 73 points set by New England in 2021.
Despite trailing 2-0, Suarez’s two goals before halftime brought Miami level. Messi, who had scored a hat-trick for Argentina earlier in the week, came off the bench in the 58th minute and immediately set up Benjamin Cremaschi to take the lead.
After a disallowed goal for New England, Messi took control, scoring twice more, including a brilliant finish from a Suarez back-heel, completing his hat-trick with a volley in the 89th minute. Miami are now the clear favorites for the upcoming MLS Cup playoffs.
