Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruque Ahmed has reported a 10% decline in metro rail passengers following a recent bearing pad incident.

Speaking at a press conference at Diabari Metro Station on Monday (December 1), he said daily ridership has fallen from around 460,000 to approximately 400,000 passengers.

Faruque Ahmed clarified that the November 21 earthquake, measuring 5.7, caused no physical damage to the metro structure, with only two tail sections affected and details of minor cracks still under assessment.

He also addressed a safety incident on Sunday when a teenager climbed onto the roof between two coaches at Secretariat station, causing temporary suspension of train services after 8:00pm. The individual was safely brought down, and no damage occurred.
