Metro rail to run on new schedule from today

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited has taken initiatives to expand passenger services, including changes to train schedules and a 20-minute extension of operating hours in both directions. The new schedule comes into effect from Sunday, June 7.

Under the new schedule, the last metro train from Motijheel to Uttara will now depart at 10:30 pm. Previously, this train left at 10:10 pm. Meanwhile, the last train from Uttara North Station to Motijheel will depart at 9:50 pm, compared to the previous departure time of 9:30 pm.

The decision to introduce night-time extended service was not sudden. Authorities said they had been conducting trials with this schedule for the past month, and it has been implemented from today after assessing passenger and operational capacity.

Initially, one additional trip will be operated in each direction during the extended 20-minute period. Currently, 297 trips are operated daily on the metro rail network. The new schedule will increase the number of trips slightly.

DMTCL has said it plans to further extend operating hours in the future, considering continued passenger demand.

The country's first metro rail began its journey in the capital in December 2022. Initially, trains operated on a limited scale on the MRT Line-6 section from Uttara North to Agargaon. New stations have been gradually added, and the scope of service has been consistently expanded.
