Michael Jackson's biopic ‘Michael’ set for release in Bangladesh
The much-anticipated biopic 'Michael', based on the life of legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, is set for a simultaneous release in Bangladesh and worldwide on April 24.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film traces Jackson’s journey from a modest upbringing to becoming the “King of Pop,” while also exploring the controversies surrounding his later life.
In Bangladesh, the film will be screened at major cinema chains including Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinemas and Lion Cinemas. Star Cineplex alone has scheduled around 26 shows daily across its outlets.
With a production budget exceeding $155 million, 'Michael' is being described as the most expensive music biopic ever made. Industry analysts expect a strong global opening, with distributor Lionsgate Films projecting first-day earnings of $75–80 million across 82 countries, rising to $140–150 million by the end of the opening weekend.
The film is produced by Graham King, who also produced the 2018 hit Bohemian Rhapsody—a benchmark music biopic that grossed over $900 million globally.
Jackson is portrayed by his nephew Jaafar Jackson, whose resemblance and performance, including iconic dance moves, have already drawn attention following the film’s trailer release.
The biopic is expected to be a major milestone in music-based cinema, combining large-scale production, advanced visual technology, and a comprehensive portrayal of one of pop culture’s most influential figures.
