Microsoft has temporarily suspended the rollout of a Windows 11 preview update after identifying installation errors. Users were facing problems while installing the non-security update, designated 'KB5079391'.

The optional cumulative update was released last Thursday for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. It included a total of 29 changes, featuring improvements to Smart App Control and display functionality.

According to Microsoft, many users received a message during installation stating that some update files were missing or corrupted. Additionally, the error code '0x80073712' was appearing, causing confusion among users. Under these circumstances, the rollout of the update has been paused.

No specific timeline has been given for resolving the issue. However, it is expected that the flaw will be fixed before the scheduled monthly 'Patch Tuesday' update on April 14. This will allow users to test the new features and fixes before they are finalised.

Earlier, Microsoft had issued an emergency solution after a March 2026 update caused major issues. In that case, users were unable to sign into their Microsoft accounts across multiple services including Teams, Edge, Microsoft 365 Copilot and OneDrive.
