Minister rules out closure of six honours courses
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has termed the news of dropping Bengali, history and philosophy from the honours (graduate honours) level as 'baseless'.
While talking to reporters after the ECNEC meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, he said that no decision has been made to drop any subject from the honours level. Rather, the issue of adding some new subjects according to the needs of the time is being reviewed.
The Education Minister said that various projects taken for the development of the madrasa education system were also discussed in the ECNEC meeting.
Recently, the Education Ministry announced plans to reform the curriculum and add some new subjects for the 2027 academic year. After that, news spread on social media that Bengali, history and philosophy subjects were being dropped from the honours level.
Meanwhile, in a briefing at the Secretariat on the same issue, Prime Minister's Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said that there will be a Bengali, history and philosophy department at the honours level. However, discussions are underway on whether these departments will be kept in all educational institutions in the country.
He also said that no formal or final decision has been taken in this regard yet. Therefore, the news of removing the departments of Bengali, history and philosophy from the honors is not correct.
